I was planning to have the pee pads out all year long, but hoping that he wouldn't use them in the spring/summer unless he absolutely has to. I'm probably asking too much lol. That's a great idea with the treat suggestion, I'll definately give it a try!

Taking away pee pads in the spring/summer and putting it back in winter would probably confuse them. Also, the problem with having a dog trained on both pee pads and outside is that they won't be use to holding it.

What you can do to make them PREFER going outside is to treat ONLY when they do their business outside. Then they only go on the pee pads when they really need to because they would rather hold out for the treat by doing their business outside.
