Socialization ? Hi all,
As some of you may remember, Widdles is a rescue. He spent his first 4.5 months in a crate on top of two other crates. He was severely neglected, his breeder didn't even know he was born until he was over a week old and his sister had already died.
When Wid first came to live here, he'd run around the walls of the room like a little mouse trying to find a niche to hide in. Well, that was eight weeks ago, and Wid has come out of his shell. He plays, he loves his chewies, and he's just barely started napping on our laps. We ADORE him!!
Just today, a woman Wid doesn't know came over. He ran up to her, sniffed her, tucked his tail and scooted off. He did that several times. Like he wanted to be friendly, but was too frightened to. I had her give him lovin' and treats, but he remained afraid.
Now, he loves to ride in the car in his 'pouch' (frontpack). And he loves people, but he's fighting this timidity. I can see it. He wants so badly to be right there...but he can't quite do it.
Any suggestions for helping him socialize without frightening or overwhelming him?
Also, he just started jumping..lol..like trying to jump from the floor straight up into you..like a little jumping bean. He's very, very sweet. He's truly a heart dog..we have totally bonded with him. DH and I want to help him be all he can be!!
Thanks!!
