With retail type jobs the best thing to do is go to the ones you want to work for (make sure you are professionally dressed when you go in!) and ask if they are taking applications, do not ask if they are hiring b/c if they aren't they will usually just say no and let it be. But if you ask for an app, they will let you fill one out and keep it on hand til they have a space open. Make sure you take some resumes with you.
Most retail places have so many ppl come in and ask for applications, they have a ready pile of apps to select people from and never need to put an employment add out there.

I agree. When I was working at Pier one, we got soo many ppl coming in asking if we were hiring, we always said we are "taking applications" and we threw most of them away bc we had wayy to many.
