Oh Rene, you are an amazing person! I had tears welling up as I read your post and couldn't imagine what you must be going through.
It is so sad that this happens to people and our little ones too.
And even though it will be one of the hardest things to do, I think seeing how he is 13, that it would be best for his quality of life to not go through with the kemo and such. And to do what you said, give him the best life that you have to offer him while he is still here.
I think with him being an older dog, that the kemo and everything else will just prolong his pain. I had to put my sheltie down last July for the same reason... he was 14. And I knew that it would only prolong his pain, because he was so old. It took everything I had to do it, but I knew it was the right thing to do even though I would miss him more than anything.... and still do.
