As soon as I know one of my females is pregnant I switch them over to dry puppy food (Puppy Chow and Eukanuba). I use both because when the pups come along they are fed the same food. Some people who buy my pups don't want the expense of Eukanuba, so a year ago I started giving both so their stomachs tolerate both brands.

I give the mom, starting at 6 weeks, Old Roy Gourmet (cubed meat) packets (1/2 packet twice a day). The dry puppy food is left out all the time so the mom can eat whenever she wants to. I continue to feed the mom this way until the puppies are born and weaned from her.

To make a long story short, feed the mom puppy food.
