Rose rude questions

Whenever I've gone out and seen somebody with cute little furbaby, it never even crosses my mind to ask them how much they paid for him/her. I personally think it's quite rude. It makes me uncomfortable whenever somebody asks. Some people react with the impression "OMG, why would you ever pay that much for a dog?!"...even though I paid the normal going rate for Yorkies around here. Does this happen to a lot of Yorkie owners? I've gone out in public with my cousin's chihuahua and nobody ever asked how much he cost. Is this just a Yorkie thing?
I was the local dog nut where I used to work (now retired) and got some snide remarks now and then. I can be pretty prickly on occasion and got real good at throwing the remarks right back at them, like inquiring how much they spend on their fishing boat and trolling motor, or on their golf clubs, or on their motorcycle, or any other hobby they have, and also inquire if any of those cold items are happy to see them when they come home or give them kisses or snuggle up with them at night. I was very quick to respond to genuine questions and helped several co-workers with problems with their dogs or finding the right puppy or things like that, but never tolerated any kind of sarcasm regarding me and my love for my dogs. I was a loving mother and raised my sons and when they left home I still had some mothering left, so got puppies. My life revolves around my family AND my pets and anyone can either take me as I am or leave me alone. Nuff said!
