Hi Elizabeth. Welcome to YT. It's great that you chose to adopt. I have five Yorkies or I should say three Yorkies and two Yorkie mixes. Three of mine are rescues, one of which I just got a couple of months ago. This is it for us. We got the little one after losing our ten year old Yorkie to cancer. My ten year old that recently passed, had a collapsing trachea and he did do this from time to time. In case you were not told this PLEASE ONLY USE A HARNESS on your baby. You should never use a collar on him. This puts more pressure on the trachea. Small breeds are suseptable to collapsing tracheas and harnesses are reccomended whether you have problems already or not. As far as human foods to feed you can search and look for them here on YT. One thing for sure is you should avoid wheat and corn at least for now because many Yorkies have allergies to these two things. A quick note on what I feed my guys; I feed them (dry kibble) Chicken Soup For a Dog Lover's Soul and I free feed them, meaning I leave it out all day for them to nibble on. I also feed them a wet food at night for dinner. I make my own. Home cooking is pretty big here on YT and you can find many recipes. I simply boil chicken breast in a large pot of water, and with a small chicken buillon cube. I let it simmer for a couple of hours after boiling, then I had carrots and cook them. After I chop the chicken up in tiny bits and mash the carrots, and I add some brown rice. I make it like a can of wet dog food would look like. I mix this in with the dry kibble at night. They love it. Again, congrats on adopting.

Elaine
