The carrier does not zip or close all the way. There is a large velcro tab that is in the middle and kinda flips over and attaches on the other side and the velcro area measures 4in wide. There is a safety strap inside which attaches to the collar/harness. The bottom is fleece lined and there is a storage compartment in the bottom that zips open. Measurements are 21in X 8.3in X 12.5in according to the tag. Hope that helps! I bought it for Zoe and she just didn't like it at all plus with two skin kids of my own, it just wasn't practical to bring her as well since I'm usually chasing them around. LOL
