There are a group of breeders here in California that breed "for" the shorter nose extreme babydoll face. I don't think the "extreme babydoll face" typically does well in the show ring but the shorter snout can sometimes do well if you have a judge who likes it. The YTCA prohibits it's breeders from using the terms "babydoll", "teddybear" or "teacup" in their advertising. So, if you want to find that look it will usually not be with a YTCA breeder.
They can also go too "extreme" and get into that bulgy eyed pekinese look where the dogs can actually have breathing difficulties. The breeders are aware of this just like any good breeder who is breeding for a specific trait they will mix in some other dogs to avoid this.
I got Avalon from a breeder in Southern California who sort of started the trend here because she liked the look. There are now a lot of breeders with the look but they all have her dogs in their line somewhere. |
