Congratulations. Since I've never shown a dog I have a few questions. Can you show them yourself, or do you have to hire a handler to show them? How would you find a handler, and do they only handle one dog at a time, or do they have a few their showing at the same time. Last one - is it super duper expensive to have someone handle them, and (I guess another one) why would you have someone other then yourself show your dog? - Piper

Thank you.
Yes, you can show yourself and most of the time I do. We got the first point on Gi, before she left. I work fulltime and just do not have a lot of time. This also makes it hard to show on the Fridays. Then you have travel time and then when you get home - you have to unpack, etc... So there is your weekend to get the house clean, lawn mowed, and don't forget - you have to have someone watch the dogs that stay home. Where I live in Ga. it is a big state and most of the shows you have some travel to get to them. So having a handler for me is a good option. AKC has a list of professional handlers. I like to find them by meeting them at shows and getting recommendations. You have to find a handler that fits you best. I prefer one I trust, very nice and approchable, knows how to show yorkies (grooming), and mostly takes good care of your dog.
Expensive - somewhat, but for my situation - it is worth it. Handlers prices range depending on their experience and how many dogs they take with them to show. Usually they take 2 - 1 male and 1 female. They usually travel with others.
I hope I have answer your questions.
