Default ? About Weening

I need some advice about when it is time for weening.

The pups are almost 6 weeks old but when you try to feed them, the Mama dog growls when the pups go near it & she eats up the food. This is a totally spoiled dog that only eats boiled chicken, no dog food normally.

I bought a couple of toys for the pups & the Mama dog takes it off of them. One was more like a piece of fleece with a squeeky in it in the shape of a dog. One of the pups went right over to it & fell asleep on it & she pulled it from the pup & wouldn't let anyone touch it. I put it back in the bag to take back home for when I get one of the pups. The Mama dog kept going over to it barking her head off wanting it.

Is all of this more jealousy or is she trying to protect her pups?
