Yorkies are fragile and something I learned very early with Sophie since she was small is to hold them with your hand spread under their chest at all times and the rest of their body on your arm. Teach your daughter how to hold the new puppy, and they will not be so likely to wiggle out.
Definitely protect the pup from larger animals until they are older. You will find joy with a Yorkie and recommend a specialized book on how to raise a Yorkie from the pet store. Very helpful.
