Who does Missy belong to again? Convincing him is easy. You say, "No." LOL...as you can tell, I have very little tolerance for being told by my husband that he knows better than I do whereas MY dogs are concerned. He's learned over time and doesn't try anymore.
Honestly though, what is his reasoning behind insisting on it being used? If you are in a bind, go get one of the really big tupperware storage containers and cut a 'door' in it for momma to get in and out. You can take the lid off for access and put it back on for her privacy. Be sure to leave a 'lip' so the pups can't get out.
