You shouldn't really microchip a puppy imo.

We will give the new owner an Avid (microchip) chip if they want one and we recommend it be inserted at the time the puppy is spayed/neutered. The advantage is that the chip can be inserted into the muscle (depending on the puppy's size) while its under for the operation. The microchip tends to stay in place if its in the muscle rather than just under the skin.
