I actually just ordered a new machine from an Ebay store (free shipping, too)!! I went around the the various stores looking at machines (Walmart, JoAnns, Hancocks) and decided what I wanted and found it for $60 less at Ebay than anywhere else was offering.
Even though you are going to start with the basics, get a machine that has any many options as you think you might need. Otherwise, you'll find that you'll have one for a few months and wish you would have gotten a few more bells and whistles. It is amazing the difference $20-40 can make on the options available!!!!
