If Buddy walks the exact same route every day, and has never done this before, then trust me, your little guy is telling you there is something there that is NOT right. The reaction you describe sounds like that whatever the cause, it is making him very fearful, especially if he is so used to that area.
Let us know what happens today, but please do not go checking "in the woods" alone.
