 Tonsillectomy???
Just curious if anyone of you have a Yorkie who has had a tonsillectomy??? I have not posted here in quite some time so I am not sure if anyone has had a Yorkie with tonsillitis. My Emmie will be 5 years old in January. In the last year she has had 5-6 bouts of tonsillitis which have required trips to the vet for cortisone injections and antibiotics. Her tonsils clear for about 1-2 months and then she starts all over again. Her regular vet seems to think she might outgrow it, but he was not in the office this past Saturday when she had another flare-up and I had to take her to another vet. This vet said she probably won't outgrow it and she could do laser surgery on her tonsils. I am so very worried about this, though, as she has a degree of collapsing trachea and the vet said the surgery could cause her to cough for a few days after, and she would need medication in order for this not to cause problems with the trachea. I am so undecided on what to do. She weighs around 6 pounds but is very petite in stature. I just hate for her to continue having these episodes of tonsillitis. She doesn't want to eat when she has it, and she constantly "licks her lips" so I know her throat is hurting her. |
