I used straight vinegar on my carpets. I soak it up with paper towles then spray the spot really well with just plain white vinegar. This weekened I asked several people that came over if our house smelled and all said no(I'm still waiting on my steam cleaner to be fixed so I can go over the entire house one good last time). With the plastic I might just take a cloth and wet it with vinegar and wipe over the spot and just let it dry. Then like YorkiesRule said I would move the one pad a little at a time. I would try maybe a foot a day at first and then more or less after that depending on how she's doing.
