I was just now trimming the hair off the top of Max's ears (they're almost standing up but I wanted to keep the weight off them totally so they'll perk the rest of the way up) and he started to squirm. Instead of doing what I should have, which is taking the clippers back up and resettling him, I just tried to hold him a moment longer and get that last bit of hair. I nipped the edge of his ear and he let out a yelp. It didn't bleed but a minute and he didn't act like it bothered him past that but I feel TERRIBLE! I have trimmed my horses ears (and the rest of their body) a million times and have never knicked them with the clippers. I have trimmed my childrens nails a billion times and have never hurt them. But try and trim my poor puppy's ears and I hurt him.
