Thanks for the welcome, patti58. I'm loving the forums! Yes, it will be hard to not cuddle them, won't it. You naturally want to comfort them. When I told my husband what had been suggested on the forum, he then reminded me about our budgie (who passed away this year) who was very scared of any loud noise, but would look at us and judge from our reaction whether it was something to be frightened of. It was so cute the way he would quickly look at us immediately after the noise, and then just relax when he saw we weren't frightened. So, it does make sense not to 'encourage' their fear with lots of comforting. I just didn't think it would apply to dogs for some strange reason!
