It is better to let them know now. Also, the receptionist shouldn't be taking grooming instructions if she is not a groomer. Where I used to work, if someone tried to tell me how they wanted their dog groomed, I'd tell them that I wasn't a groomer and for them to let the groomer know what they wanted when the checked in. When they brought their dog in to be groomed, they got to talk to a groomer who wrote down what they wanted.
