The one I have is basically a triangle. Figure out how big around you need to make it. Mine has a band of white furry stuff (I don't know what the fabric is called) that's about 1 1/2" and then the red part is approx. 6 1/2" that comes to a point. Then there's a little white furry ball at the top. It flops over by itself. There's a 3/4" band of white elastic sewn about 1/2 way up the inside of the white band and is adjustable. I think it's probably that wide b/c the weight of the top of the hat might pull it off if the elastic was narrower. Hope you can see this picture:
