Default How cold before putting sweater on?

At what temperature do you start putting sweaters on your Yorkies?

I usually gauge it by "if I need a jacket, then Bitsy needs a sweater".

In the past two weeks, I've been getting some very annoying comments from a few women when I've been on my walk. One woman has a poofy toy poodle. She's usually very pleasnt, but the other day I ran into her. Bitsy had her Minnie Mouse sweater on. The woman says to me "it's not cold, why is she wearing a sweater?". I replied, "well, your wearing a jacket..." Then I saw the same woman a few days ago and it was raining a few hours prior. I had Bitsy in her sweater and her little booties so her feet doesn't get all wet and cold. This time the woman said to me "So now she has to wear booties? Poor thing".

Another time, I was walking Bitsy and ran into a woman walking her Golden. I was commenting on how gorgeous her dog is and she was petting Bitsy telling me how cute she is. Then she said "you know she doesn't have to wear a sweater, thats why they have fur."

Now, if Bitsy hated wearing her sweater or her boots or anything else, I wouldn't force the issue. Bitsy doesn't like wearing boots so much (she walks like a spastic ballerina for the first 10 minutes in them), but she doesn't mind the clothes. She acts like she doesn't even notice that they're on.

I'm usually not one to let things get to me, but for some reason, these comments really bother me. These women make me feel like either I'm a)torturing my dog or b)acting like one of those froufrou starlettes aka Paris Hilton. My favorite colour is pink, so all of Bitsy's things are very cute and very pink. I, on the other hand dress like a total bum when walking her. I usually have on old sweat pants, no makeup and my hair in a baseball cap....

I guess I just need to vent and get some reassurance that I am doing the right thing for my baby. Thanks for reading.
