Mine do that too. I once asked my vet why my cairn terrier used to do this with any kind of seafood. He told me she was using the scent to disguise her own scent. I asked him if that meant that if a big German Shepherd saw her from across the street, would he come running over to get her because he saw a "dog" but then when he gets there, he would stop becaus ehe realized it was not a dog, but a fish because of the smell?? Oh gee, I would have sworn that was a dog, but now I can tell it is a fish! lol
