I pay $38 just for an exam so $41 is reasonable. $300 seems to be a lot for a spay but it does include microchipping. I think up to $200 is reasonable but after that it's getting a little expensive for just a spay and pre-op bloodwork. I guess it depends where you live though too

Educate yourself and buy from reputable breeders or rescue.
