I just got a new puppy and I took my dogs to see th new puppy at it's home before i brought her home. Partly because I wanted to see how they would react to each other and partly to get them used to each other away from our home.
When I brought the last puppy home however I introduced them at my house and they were all just fine.
I think they recommend a neutral place so the first pet will not feel he/she needs to defend their territory.
