I guess it's normal, but I for one wouldn't have it. I'm sorry - but you just have no idea what is going on at these places when you are not in the room. For all we know the dog could act up and the groomer could get PO'd and be mean/rough with it. I personally wouldn't take any chances, but that's just me.
I am just so thankful that I know how to groom the babies myself
