the list is:

frog
dolphin
snake
butterfly
pig
duck
kangaroo
ant
bat
giraffe
sheep
goldfish
lion

how do you explain this to a 6 year old? I was taught that if they give birth the way humans do, they are mammals. surely that is not how they are teaching 1st graders, right??????

i didn't know a bat was a mammal.

what are the different classes of animals? mammal, fish, reptile, insect, bird, amphibian...are there others?? and are these even right??

gosh...i need to go back to school

I was taught as you were. Mammals give birth to live young and produce mother's milk. It sound like her assignment is to just say yes or no if I understand correctly. If so it would be-

Is it a mammal?
frog-n reptile (or amphibian?)
dolphin-y
snake-n reptile
butterfly-n insect
pig-y
duck-n bird
kangaroo-y
ant-n insect
bat (I had no idea either. )
giraffe-y
sheep-y
goldfish-n fish
lion-y

Okay I had to edit twice because of spelling so maybe I shouldn't be offering help, lol.
