I have my pads in a tray that keeps them in place, I don't know if that would help but they are high enough on the sides so it's almost like they have to get in it. ?

As far as peeing in the crate i'm sure it's just because of holding it for a while and then getting so excited that your home it comes out almost involuntary. Maybe using an ex-pen instead of a crate would benefit you. That way the pee pad is always available so the bladder isn't full when you come home.
