I also grew up in Florida, I learned early on that you NEVER EVER kill a non poisonious snakes, especially King Snakes. For years a HUGE king snake lived under my play house and sunned on my playhouse steps. I like snakes, but living in the country, I am always on the watch ..... I have this fear of one of my babies becoming a snake snack!!!! Now adays, snakes who venture too close to the house are redirected towards the barn where they can get a mouse flavored snake snack.
