You also have to firmly say NO! when you see him doing it inside. They need to understand that doing it inside is a no-no.
And of course tons of praise when doing it outside. It certainly takes time! I would definitely say that taking him out on a schedule will help immensely! Once in the morning, afternoon, and before bed, is usually enough.
