Default Anyone else have a parent/teacher conference lately?

I had conferences for both of my girls tonight. My oldest is in 2nd grade, my youngest is in Kindergarten. They're both doing great but on the report card for my youngest it had all of the letters both cap & lowercase and it was marked which ones they recognize and which ones they know the sound for. Mine doesn't recognize every letter yet, but she knows more than were marked. She can spell, read and write her sisters name which is Abby so I know she knows the letter "A" yet it was marked that she didn't know it along w/ a couple of others that I know she knows. Then for being able to say what letter goes w/ what sound she only had two letters marked. I KNOW that's wrong, it didn't even have the T marked which is what her name starts with. She's known what a T sounds like for a few years. I went through the letters with her at home before I went and she knew a lot that weren't marked. I thought it was a little funny considering she had J marked that she knows the sound and she's recognized that sound at home. I mentioned to the teacher that at home she actually knows a lot of the sounds & can tell me what letter goes w/ the sound and that she recognizes more letters than were marked. I'm not doubting that she missed some on the day that they tested them on it, I just wanted to make the teacher aware that she does know more than those that were marked. I was thinking maybe the teacher might need to push her a little more or maybe my daughter gets shy when she's being tested one on one. I had this with my older daughter too. Instead of giving me any kind of reason as to why she would be able to do more at home than when tested at school the teacher said that based on what she's seen she would be surprised if Tori can actually recognize those at home. I was shocked. I didn't imply that she knows all of them or that she always gets them all right, but she definitely knows more than was marked. Grr...she could at least be open to the idea that Tori knows some more instead of implying that I was lying. My husband wasn't able to attend the conference and he was surprised when I told him what she said...he's so mellow that things don't usually bother him. Oh well, besides that everything is going as expected. My 2nd grader needs to work on her handwriting more but her daddy and I both have bad handwriting so I'm not expecting miracles with that one. I hate focusing on the one thing that's not as good as I feel it should be. I end up feeling like I'm failing as a parent when I know I do a good job...not perfect but better than a lot of people that I know. Also, I'm not bashing the teacher because she is really great and does a great job with the kids.

Anyone else have a conference lately? Did you agree w/ everything or did you feel there were some areas that your teacher could improve on? Just wondering.
