I've never seen a silky-coated yorkie with waves in their hair just because of being cut short. A friend of mine has a yorkie with a silky coat but it's really wavy all the time, no matter how long or short it is.

My parents have a yorkie with a cottony coat. Right now it is cut really short (like an inch long) and is pretty wavy looking. But I've seen his hair pretty long before and it's always straight when kept brushed out. So it is possible the hair could be straight if longer. I would just see how wavy the hair is - if just slightly wavy it would probably straight out...but very wavy or curly wouldn't straighten out
