Default Milk replacer

Not sure if this is the right place to post or not, but i figured someone here might know.

My friend just got a 6 wk old maltese/Lhasa/Shih Tzu pup from a rescue. The rescue was well intentioned, but they know nothing about small breed dogs. I told my friend about the pup needing to stay with the mom for at least 8 wks, and 12 is better. But the rescue adopted out the mom too this wknd.

My friend said that she got some milk replacer. should she mix that in with his food or give it to him seperately, or does he need it at all.

Any other advise you may have would be greatly appreciated. I know the pup should be with its mom longer, but at this point thats not possible.

thanks!
