5 months is still very young and it sounds like he did not have the best life up until now. 5 months is not "old" as you are putting it. he has a lot of capability to learn a lot of things. but you will HAVE to have patience. and you will have to get control. sound like you are really stressing and he knows this!! and him tucking his tail under his butt makes it sound like maybe he is not very secure feeling...you need to be doing all you can to make him feel safe, secure, and loved. not stressing out and flipping out because he is having accidents and eating your other dogs food. instead, you need to calm down and just love him. love him until you can't love him any more. once he feels loved and secure, he will WANT to please you...and hence will be sooo much easier to train. it's not extremely common to have a fully trained dog at 5 months old. in fact, a lot of dogs are really hard to train until they are about a year old or so when their attention span is a little longer. my best friend has a boxer that is just STUBBORN and hard to get her to calm down and train her...she is just a year old now and is getting much much better. they got her at 9 months old and it was a total mess. but chloe loves them...and she feels so safe and secure with them...and tries very hard to please them.
it will get better. but you have to give it time, patience, and a wealth of love. there are a lot of wonderfully smart people here on YT and i am sure you will get all the help and support you need...but you have to show that you are patient and willing to tough this out.
