I have two and it isn't too bad. They are not allowed upstairs (all carpeted) and are 'supervised' in the bedroom (also carpeted)...they are not dirty when they go in there, so they will only scatter toys and play chase, which is no big deal.
They love to sleep in the office, so I had very nice vinyl flooring installed. They have the kitchen, the greatroom, the office and entryways to run in. There's plenty of room and there is no carpeting. Also, when it is wet outside, I put the doggy towel on the floor when they come in. They know they are going to get their feet wiped somewhat. I walk them in the yard...they do not have free run in and out...so that prevents a lot of tracking dirt in and out. I worry too much about hawks, snakes, fire ants, etc. I just reread this...I guess I'm anal!! LOL
