Sure Lexie could have handled 4 or 5 just fine....my Lexie is doing as well as a seasoned whelper and mama and this is only her first litter! I'm the one fretting over every little thing. My biggest concern is that she will lay on one of them and smother them, so I keep jumping in there to rescue a pup that "look" like it's getting squished. Don't know whether I'm butting in too much or not, but "better safe than sorry" is my motto.
