I admit that some of the bigger names in the maltese world can be very snobby and if for some reason you say something or some "key words" that rubs them wrong they will not sell to you. It can be very difficult to get one of their pups. Female pups can be near impossible to get from some of them.

You pretty much have to be form a good relationship with some of them to even get on a list but they do have beautiful dogs.
As mentioned above, check out spoiledmaltese...it's a good forum and you can get info or advice from them. Maltese Only is another maltese forum, it's full of great info but the forum has "issues", it's very sensored, screened, ruled & dictated by the owner/admin whom has a napoleon complex. Most post will never make the board for various reason. Members come and go like the wind and never stay long because of the tone and rules of the admin. It has a horrible reputation but there is much to learn from it.
