If she has an extrahepatic liver shunt, she needs to have surgery to correct it to have the best outcome.
If she has hepatic microvascular dysplasia(tiny shunts throughout the liver), then there is no surgery to fix it and she will need to be maintained on a certain kind of diet, supplements, and lactulose.
There are different severities of MVD/HMD, but my opinion is to keep them on supplements and on a diet with the "right" kind of protein to get the best outcome and to prevent the liver from being damaged.
