That breeder sounds like either a puppy mill or a broker and sounds like one to avoid at all costs. You should ask on the Spoiled Maltese forum if anyone knows of breeders in your area.. they are usually really helpful about recommending breeders. I can testify to the fact that you should be extra cautious when finding a Maltese breeder. My Malt has had a lot of health problems, is larger than standard and has a very cottony coat and my sister's dog from the same breeder ended up needing a very costly Luxating Patella surgery on one of his knees. I just bought from someone in the newspaper without checking up on their reputation and I really got taken by ending up with a genetic time bomb. Don't get me wrong, I love him to pieces but his health problems are becoming very costly and it makes me sad to watch him go through all of that. Please be careful who your purchase from.
