I say go for it!
I live by myself and am out of the house for 9 hours a day. When I got Bitsy, she was 9 weeks old. I took 2 weeks off work, then did a week of half days, then went home for lunch for two weeks.
I put her in her play area when I'm at work (bathroom and gated hallway). She has her crate, peepads, food and water and a million toys in her play area. She also has my two cats to keep her company.
To make sure she doesn't get all anxious and destructive, I walk her for 40 minutes in the morning before work and an hour when I come home from work.
She is an absolute delight and happy. She didn't have any separation anxiety. I made sure that during the two weeks I had off, I left her alone for different periods of time (5 min, 15 min, then 10 min, then an hour etc). I don't say anything to her when I leave for work, I just go. When I come home, I ignore her completely for 10 minutes, then I walk over calmly and say hello.
Good luck! |
