Well, the type of stones that he had were not dissolvable, so they had to do surgery to remove them. I have him on a homemade diet(high in moisture) and treats that are high in moisture.
It's very important to find out what kind of stones they are because the treatment will depend entirely on the type...
But in any case, feeding the dog a diet that is high in moisture and treats that are high in moisture like watermelon or apple will help keep the urine diluted and prevent stones from forming.
Struvite stones are dissolvable whereas calcium oxalate and ammonium urate are not.
