I have never dealt with gout personally, but I've done a lot of research on gout and purines and I think it's important to eliminate foods that are extremely high in purines such as yeast(baker's or brewer's), scallops, organ meats, sardines, anchovies, mackerel, etc. and really limit most foods high in purines.
Foods high in purines include oatmeal, seafood, chicken, beef, legumes(lentils, beans, etc), and veggies like cauliflower, asparagus, spinach, green peas, and mushrooms.
Good protein foods for people with gout are eggs, low fat dairy products, and tofu. Veggies except the ones listed above are also very good for you. Increase your water intake as well.
A high protein, low-carb diet is very bad for people with gout.
