Chip actually did that last night, when I was at the stove. Sat right down next to me on the mat, I know he wanted to be close to me but its not safe. So I scooted him off the mat and out the kitchen. I watched him to make sure he is out, occassionaly he will straddle the doorway to test me. Sometimes when I kick him out he'll find a toy in the living room to occupy himself with and leave me alone. I think its just being repeatative and consistent, for them to fully grasp it.
