Wow, if some of you, who are wonderful dog owners, are turned down by rescues how does anyone hope to be approved? I looked into some rescues recently and I do have a wooden privacy fence, but the application went on to ask if the gate had a padlock on it and if the fence had underground extensions so that the dog can't dig out. I personally have only heard of our Wolf Park in Lafeyette having an underground chicken wire type extension to keep the wolves from digging out. Also, just a fence doesn't protect these guys. We're supposed to stay outside with them anyway. Is a fence going to keep a bird from swooping down and stealing one of them for a quick dinner? I wish the rescue would just let Ellen pay a second adoption fee for this family and let them keep the little doggy. I feel so sorry for all involved - dog, kids, mom, Ellen & her family. How devastating. And it will make a lot not want to even try to adopt from a rescue.
