The tip of the nail will look white while you cut, and once you see a little black dot in the middle of the white, stop. That is the tip of the quick. Trust me, with how regularly they have to be trimmed, taking them to get them cut is a waste of money! It costs me over 20 bucks just for a nail trim for both my dogs! Can't afford that, so I just had to suck it up and be brave! Get some of the powder for the nails too so if you do cut it too short, you can alleviate the pain and bleeding quick. I cut Tina's nail too short once, and I felt so bad, but I stopped the bleeding really quick and she forgave me! You can do it!!
I agree 100%. Mine are super-whiney and overly dramatic every time I get the clipper out, but they arent given a choice. I cut a teeny bit every couple of days until they seem the right length; then keep it up so it doesnt become a problem. Please keep some styptic pencil or powder handy just in case.
