Each pup is different, so it is hard to say. Sissy was back to normal activity within two days and never had a problem. Angel was a different story. She wouldn't stay still at all. She had to be wrapped in a blanket, her incision became infected, she wore a cone (E-collar) for a week and took pain meds and antibiotics as well. Because she wouldn't stay still, her incision oozed, bled and crusted completely over - which had to be removed by the vet so it would heal.

The incision should not be red or swollen. You can probably try a little peroxide on a q-tip to clean the area. It if continues to look like dried blood or gets more of it, I would consult your vet.
