Hello I'm new here Hi everyone. I just found your site, and I am happy I did. I'm sure you all will be a great resource. We are picking up our yorkie on Friday; we are thinking of the name "Misty". We have 3 cats, but Misty will be our first dog. I have always loved yorkies, and it will be so wonderful! I think! I am excited but also getting a little nervous. I have read some of the posts here about trouble with housebreaking....well that makes me nervous!
Misty has been crate trained at the breeder's and the breeder uses piddle pads, but Misty is only about 9 weeks old, and so not much will be done in regards to housebreaking. I have been reading about housebreaking, and it seems there are two ways to go about it: piddle pads and taking her outside. But I don't know which way to start out. It seems like piddle pads can have advantages like when we are gone or it's raining and cold, but I want her to know how to go outside too. Can we use both methods, or will that confuse her? Can we introduce a second method later, and if so, when? I also like the idea of buying a bell for the door, so she can communicate to us. But when does that fit in?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to succeed at housebreaking, it would be appreciated.
I'll probably have more concerns later, but for now that's it!!
