A thousand is a pretty good budget. I love this breed and would recommend them to anyone as long as they know what is involved. I have a 6 year old son and a very small pup - 2.5lbs! For months, literally, before we got Chewy I just drilled the rules, things like don't try to ride him (he did this with our old dog!!!) Don't run or chase him, don't pick him up, etc...When Chewy finally arrived, my son was good to go. Depending on how old or young your son is you can just try to prepare him.
