Yep, know what you mean. When I switched vets a couple of years ago, my Mozart (mixed Shih-tzu/Maltest/Silky) was eleven. The vet looked at him and guestimated him to be seven! Then, when she looked in his mouth, words like: "Awesome" and "Amazing" sprang forth.
Then, I told her he was RAW fed (three years, at that time). Of course, RAW isn't a miracle cure for all ails; but, it does improve a lot of things: teeth, allergies, skin, coat and, (yes) even arthritis. Before the RAW diet, Mo was throwing up every dog food we tried, and dragging his left hind leg. Now, he might get tummy upsets every frew weeks; but, not every day like before. And, moves a lot better - no more dragging his hind quarter from pain.
